Get Ready for Another Great Season - Amateur and professional golfers from all over Central Oregon participate in Birdies 4 Babies™, a grassroots fundraiser that plays off the golfing tradition of giving a dollar to fellow golfers when they score a birdie.
Last summer, golfers raised more than $17,000 for MountainStar. Among the major birdie makers were golfers from Crosswater Golf Club, who donated more than $4,800, including a contribution of over $2,300 from participants, plus an additional $2,500 from a member who pledged to match the funds raised.
“We were blown away when the Birdies 4 Babies organizers at Crosswater [Valerie Britton and Kim Rogers] announced the contribution,” explains Tim Rusk, Executive Director of MountainStar. “The creativity and generosity of Crosswater members is absolutely incredible.”
According to Rogers, “Both the men’s and ladies’ groups at Crosswater wanted to help children at high-risk for abuse and neglect and whole-heartedly adopted Birdies 4 Babies™.” “For golfers, it was not only great fun to make a birdie, but knowing that the money raised was going to the aid of our community’s most vulnerable children made the experience much more gratifying,” says Britton.
About Birdies 4 Babies™
Birdies 4 Babies™ was conceived by two MountainStar Board members (Board President, Kathy Murch and Board VP of Development, Joanne Michael), with several of their golfing pals (Battistella, Melinda Bailey, Shelly Hummel and Susan Weir), who began collecting their birdie dollars for the babies at MountainStar Family Relief Nursery in 2005.
If you would like to participate in Birdies 4 Babies, contact your golf pro or MountainStar Family. You can make a difference!
